Planning
The success of any project is heavily dependant upon the quality of the planning involved. This becomes even more critical when a manufacturing environment offers a degree of flexibility in its products. Being able to keep a handle on manpower, materials and an orderly throughput of product is essential in delivering quality products on time and on budget. From the moment a bid is considered, all information regarding the bid (and ultimately the project when the bid is successful) is placed into Milltech’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The file created becomes the single source of information for all management and planning decisions throughout the lifecycle of a project.
At Milltech, a number of key planning elements are in place long before a project starts Material Status • Requirements are calculated from electronic bid data • Materials are either earmarked from inventory, or put on order • As new materials are received, they are labeled and tracked according to the project they are associated with. Labor Targets • All activity is tracked on the manufacturing floor by our ERP system. Through this we have stored historical data on any process or activity that can take place in the shop. • This data is compared to the project requirements, to accurately plan the manpower and machine time requirements of the complete project • Associating this plan with all other on-going projects, creates a schedule that optimizes the work flow and generates highly accurate production schedules |
